Concrete floor grinding is just like sanding wood; in this process old concrete gets stripped and leaves the new shiny layer. Over the time, all types of flooring get dusty, pits and other imperfection and concrete grinding removes all those imperfections to make a new shiny, glossy floor surface.

You can do it at by yourself also, if you know how to do it and if you have required concrete grinding equipment & tools. You can buy new or old equipment or even you can rent it for a short time as XPS floors grinding machines are quite expensive.

Floor grinding machines use diamond bits infused disks to get the desired level of shine in concrete by grinding it. Machines use finer grit polishing disks for smoothing the floor until desired shine is there on floor. For new or rough concrete flooring they start with a polishing disk that has 200 grits and they move increase grits gradually to from 1500 to 3500 grit to get the shiny and glossy surface.

After the first floor grinding step hardeners can be used to protect the floor from dust and water.

There are 2 methods for floor grinding or polishing that is wet and dry.

In the wet method, diamond grits get cooled by water and it gets rid of the dust. Water works as a lubricant also that reduces friction and extends the life of polishing tools including the disks. This method works great, saves disk but it does a lot of messiness.

Dry grinding method means machine will contain all the dirt in attached dust containing equipment and will make no mess but it may consume more disk compare to wet method.

In few cases you might need to do both dry and wet grinding to get the desired results.
