How to acid stain concrete floor?

Acid stain is one of the most popular concrete coatings available in the market. The patterns and colors that can be attained through this method are spectacular.

The varieties of shades of color are often as deep and rich as natural granite, marble and sometimes even wood or leather.

Though staining a surface is a complicated process, it can be simplified into four
steps.

 1. Prepare Your Materials

Starting a new project necessitates collecting all the raw materials. Eliminate the possibility of ruining the job because you forgot to purchase a cleaning finish or baking soda. Also, do not forget to buy proper protective gear such as rubber gloves and safety goggles. Other essential materials include acid stains, sealers, concrete cleaner, roller, brushes, and other things that will come in handy.

2. Cleaning the Area

Once the materials have been gathered, the next step will be to begin preparing and cleaning the surface. Acid stains are semi transparent so you have to ensure that the whole region is clean and free of dust particles and dirt. You have to clean the area carefully without damaging the floor.

3. Applying the Acid Stain

To apply the solution you will require a sprayer, a roller or a similar appliance. There are a variety of ways to apply the stain. Just make sure you do it in sections. Also, the brush strokes must not contradict with one another and leave harsh marks. The sections must be somewhere 10 x 10 ft square.

4. Washing Up

Once the surface has finished reacting with the acid stain, you have to wash the floor. Neutralize the surface with water and baking soda. This will counterbalance the stain and also eliminate any surplus residue.

The whole process may seem simple but it requires a lot of preparation. This is why it is recommended that you get a professional to do the job for you. Application can be risky, and results ugly if it's not done correctly.

  1. If you grind the concrete you will have to grind the whole area to make sure the surface texture is all the same. If the paint and glue remain on the concrete floor when Acid Stained Concrete, you will notice them.
